We were right about .XXX
It’s sometimes nice to be able to say “I told you so”.
It’s been more than ten years since an amorphous group attempted to make the .XXX TLD a thing
At the time many in the adult business rightly made a big stink about it. Not only would such a thing encourage the “ghettoization” of legitimate adult business, it would also make censorship far easier for every despotic regime from Iran to Russia, China to North Korea.
We didn’t need it, we didn’t want it, and the introduction of it could only ever cause stigmatization and censorship.
More than ten years later it’s thoroughly dead, and that’s because of the principled stand many thousands of webmasters and studios made when this attempt was first introduced.
Hats off to you.
Not many people are able to recognize what the community did to fend off this attempted hijacking of adult business, so if you were a part of the rejection of this despotic ambition please accept my personal thanks for sticking to your guns and helping to make sure it never happened.
Cheers!
Conran.
